Couples in Transition
When Life Changes,
Your Relationship Has to Change Too.
Every couple eventually enters a season they didn't fully prepare for.
The question worth exploring is, who are we becoming?
Maybe nothing is “wrong”.
(Or, maybe it is.)
But something is changing.
Kids grow up. Careers change. Retirement arrives. Parents age. Life shifts—and the relationship that carried you through one chapter may not be the relationship that carries you into the next.
The ways you’ve learned to communicate, make decisions, divide responsibilities, and stay connected may have served you well. But they may no longer be creating the kind of relationship you deeply want.
The question isn’t simply, “How do we get back to the way we were?”
It’s, “Who do we need to become—and what kind of relationship do we want to create now?”
“Thinking like a team is the clear antidote
to thinking like two individuals.” — Terry Real
Couples don’t just experience change.
They navigate it from two very different places.
The relationship that carried you through your last chapter may need to grow and change to carry you into the next one.
One of you may feel ready for what’s next while the other is grieving what’s ending. One may want to move forward while the other needs time to make sense of what has changed. Even when you’re facing the same transition, your nervous systems, emotions, desires, and perceptions may tell very different stories.
FOr most couples, so much of a relationship can be organized around raising children, building careers, solving problems, taking care of the home, and simply getting through the demands of life. When those things begin to change, the relationship is invited to change too.
You may find yourself asking:
What do we want this next chapter to look like?
Who are we apart from the roles we’ve carried?
What have we lost—and what do we need to let go of?
How have we each changed?
How do we find our way back to each other?
What do we want to build together now?
These aren’t just marriage questions. They’re worthy questions about who you’re becoming—and who you’re becoming together.
The space between the relationship you’ve known and the relationship you’re becoming
can be painfully uncomfortable—and deeply meaningful if you’re willing to lean into it together.
What kind of transition
are you navigating together?
Career Change
A new job, job loss, business change, or demanding career season is affecting the rhythm and future of your relationship.
One or both of you are leaving a career and trying to imagine how work, purpose, time, and identity will change.
Retirement
Something important has ended, and you're trying to understand how to move forward as a couple. You know simply rushing past what happened isn’t an option.
Loss or Major Life Disruption
Your children are becoming independent, and you're rediscovering what it means to be a couple again.
Empty Nesting
A Relationship That Feels Stuck
Nothing catastrophic has happened, but you've begun to realize that you're coexisting more than connecting.
What if this transition could become a doorway instead of a divided in youre relationship?
You’re living through the same transition—but you may be experiencing it from very different places. One of you may be ready to move forward while the other is still grieving what’s ending. One may reach for answers when the other pulls back. One may see possibility while the other feels uncertain.
It’s easy to get caught in a pattern where the more one reaches, the more the other retreats—and the more disconnected you both become.
But what if those differences could become a doorway instead of a divide? This is a chance to understand yourselves—and each other—in a new way. Together, you can begin to explore:
What is changing for each of you
What you’re each grieving, longing for, or afraid of
The patterns that have shaped how you relate to one another
What each of you wants more of in this next chapter
Who you are becoming beyond the roles you’ve carried
What kind of relationship you want to create now
You don’t have to experience this transition the same way. You do have an opportunity to discover what’s next—and create it together.
What if this next chapter could become something neither of you could have imagined alone?
And what if, in the process, you discovered a depth of connection and intimacy you’ve never experienced together before?
What You Can Expect
Coaching creates space to slow down, listen differently, and pay attention to what’s really happening between the you.
Together, we’ll explore what’s changing, what each of you is experiencing, and what might be emerging—then turn those discoveries into meaningful steps toward the relationship and life you want to create together.
01 - Slow Down & Understand
We’ll slow down together to understand what’s actually happening. Rather than reacting to the circumstances in front of you, we’ll create space to notice what’s happening beneath the surface—your questions, emotions, relationships, circumstances, and the patterns that may be shaping how you’re responding.
02 - Discover What Matters
We’ll explore your individual stories, values, desires, and the relationship you’ve created together. We’ll look at who each of you has become, the stories that have shaped you, and how those stories have influenced the way you relate to one another. We’ll pay attention to what matters most to each of you now—and where your desires, needs, and hopes may be changing.
03 - Imagine What’s Possible
We’ll make room for the bigger questions this moment is asking of your relationship. What do you want this next chapter to look like? What matters now? Who are you becoming individually—and who are you becoming together? Together, we’ll explore new possibilities for your relationship, your life, and the ways you want to experience each other moving forward.
04 - Take Meaningful Action
We’ll turn insight into steps you can actually take together. Coaching isn’t just about reflection. We’ll identify concrete ways to practice new patterns of communication, connection, and decision-making that align with the relationship you want to create. You’ll have opportunities to experiment, act, learn, and discover what works for the two of you.
05 - Unlimited Support
You’ll have ongoing support as you continue the work outside our time. You’ll meet with me individually and as a couple for 60–90 minutes, with reading and reflection between sessions to prepare for what’s next. Some of that work will be shared with me beforehand so we can make our time together as meaningful as possible.
You’ll also have unlimited support throughout the month by phone, text, and email, along with Field Notes—video recordings and/or written reflections from me that capture additional insights from our conversations and offer guidance as you continue moving forward.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
My role isn't to take sides, fix your relationship, or tell you what your marriage should look like.
It's to help create the space for both of you to slow down, listen differently, understand what's changing, and begin discovering what comes next.
